Around fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Law enforcement report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.

The fluid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they added.

Law enforcement then located many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials report initial examinations indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.

City officials stated they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the public for tips.

A high-ranking representative stated the vandalism made him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.

"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine people by a shooter focusing on residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
